  • The FCC has won a key bid to uphold its repeal of net neutrality but this is a win for us! Now each state can put it's own Net Neutrality laws in place. Let's discuss.

Anti net neutrality arguments are the worst I have ever seen. Their argument against NN is: "government ensuring a free internet is government control, and government control is bad".
You can apply that logic to anything the government does, "Lets get rid of freedom of speech because the first amendment is government control witch is always bad!", "Legalize murder because the government controlling what I can or can't do is bad!"

To anyone bringing up the past and calling it "fear mongering", bringing up VALID LOGICAL actions a company CAN take after repealing NN is not fear mongering.
ISPs without NN CAN limit ANYONES speed or access. Companies will always do whatever it takes to make more money so that their stocks go up. They will pay min wages, limit workhours to 39 to avoid paying benefits, trash the environment, and corrupt our government so they can make more money. You know its damn well true.

To anyone bringing up "Google and Facebook supports NN so therefor I'm against it." ISPs control the internet, not google or Facebook.
Google and facebook can already ban who ever they want, NN does not stop that, and not having NN, does not stop that.

To anyone saying internet prices went down or speeds went up, post the damn data, I am not going to take some random idiots word on politics. They still have a monopoly witch NN does not stop, and neither does getting rid of NN. So I don''t see how the "free market" has anything to do with this.

Net Neutrality has nothing to do with Left Vs Right politics... Trump is not running on anything related, neither is Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard, Joe Biden. Nothing on net neutrality.

As I understand it, “net neutrality” was a much broader set of FCC rules than simply bandwidth neutrality. I sort of think net neutrality should have been removed, and replaced with an actual law (not some un-democratic, bureaucratic rule) that was more narrowly tailored to bandwidth neutrality.

im more conservative and im more about bussiness responsibility abd them getting what they deserve. but the internet is too important to people in the most unique way known to man fucken kind and is one of the 2 liberal areas im for. moderate government enforcement is fine. as long as they dont have their damn hands on comcasts stuff - like computer server data for no good reasons or router hardware info they dont need - , than i dont think you should hear gov spying conspiracy theoiries from too many bozo's .

This argument is so interesting, and I love it. I'm pro Net Neutrality most of the time, but I understand why ISP want to get rid of it. For example, Netflix and YouTube take up a quarter of total bandwidth globally, according to Sandvine's 1H2018 Global Internet Phenomena Report. ISPs are getting taken advantage of, too, so from a business perspective it's not neutral for them. So if slowing down Netflix and YouTube would increase quality globally, I'm not sure if I'd be down for that. It would make a lot of other things I do much more enjoyable, to be sure.

Human evolution IS societal evolution and it's happening on the INTERNET. The internet needs to be protected just like the public square was. If that means kicking disgusting slugs like communist China's government (NOT it's people) out of conversations then fine. We need freedom of speech online. Period and we definitely need freedom of access ALL over the world.
Politicians act like they want global communications but won't admit that Western values are SUPERIOR.

I live in a VERY tech-focused area that prides itself on being politically forward thinking and yet there are no ISPs in my area that have basic free access. Closest there are stop at the next county over and are too expensive for me anyway. There's nothing that someone on a fixed income can afford. Even the low income discounts are with places that want to throttle us. I filed an ethics complaint with the county over this but never heard anything back.

I have a question, why is government (federal or state level) controlling the Internet and the flow of information a good thing? For as long as the Internet has been around there have not been any issues with speed or throttling of certain sites etc. Why would anyone want Big Brother to control the flow of information and restrict speech whenever they want to? If the government can control the flow of information, they can control the kind of information being distributed. The perfect examples of this are China and North Korea. Do we want to be just like them? The push for Net Neutrality is a covert push to stifle free speech and control information.

Removing net neutrality COULD have been a good thing if they did it correctly. It could have allowed small ISP companies to start and not need the billion dollar infrastructure to support high streaming websites that some people just don't use. This would allow new ISP companies to grow and offer some healthy competition in this horrible industry, but what the FCC came up with gave WAY too much freedom to current ISP companies to the point that it would be better that we just keep net neutrality.

It doesn't matter what political stance you have, the FCC did not act with the people's best interest. With every state able to decide their own laws, however, I think that this is a best case scenario that could allow the best of both worlds.
