Do the Scandinavian countries cover all aspects of life already, meaning food, medical, housing, etc.? I can see why then.

When the heart rules the head, passion takes over reason. The minimum wage argument often markets out the very people they are championing for. This is why it was first implemented to keep low skilled black workers in the south from working in northern states.

Perhaps it is time for all EU nations to act similarly to the NHL and share revenue. Have the richest and most wealthy nations (GDP and overall resources) make transfer payments to the poorer nations. Equalise wealth among all EU nations and citizens. This way EVERYONE will be on the same playing field and no one will even need a minimum wage. Once they have that done then they can just give away all the food and basic life needs to everyone and then move on to ensuring that everyone will have a post-secondary education. Those that chose not to work will not need to and they will be guaranteed a basic life wage and be paid simply to exist. Shortly after this is done they will be able to start spreading their surplus to the rest of the world (specifically the most unstable portions of the middle east and africa). As soon as this is all in place and working well they can then export this to the rest of the world and show us all just how wrong we are. If they REALLY cared they would be able to do this all within 5 years. Just imagine, by 2025 NO ONE in the world will have to work. NO ONE will need money. EVERYONE will be fed, clothed and housed. Crime will disappear since everyone will have everything they want so no need to steal it. Drugs, p0rn and prostitution will go unused since EVERYONE will be so happy they will not need their old vices to simply make it through the day,. If only these brilliant leftists and socialists would put in the effort to SHOW us all how it should be done. No more talking about it. Just do it.

But a warning: before we are able to do this and create a true utopia, the globe will need to hold a summit so we can decide on the design for our universal silver jumpsuit. After all, if sci-fi has taught us anything about utopia it is that we will all merge under the flag of universal fashion which is ALWAYS the silver jumpsuit.

If you raise the minimum wage you will be pushing people into higher tax brackets, and reducing the overall number of jobs available.

A minimum wage does NOT guarantee a standard of living. That is impossible because NO wage has any limitation on the effect of inflation. Inflation reduces the buying power of every consumer. It means any wage increase after inflation has a likely outcome of less buying power for the lowest wage workers. The two concepts are intertwined in a way leftists seem purposefully ignorant of.

They could just make it illegal to outsource anything to China. If the company does it anyway, just make it illegal to sell their goods in your country until they comply. Something else will crop up to fill the void if they don't.

Why do I have to repeat this several times every day 😬

Democratic Socialism isn't the same as Social Democracy. The two ideologies have similarities but in a country like Sweden with eight parties in parliament, they are further from each other than the two American parties are from each other. I know by experience that American supporters of Democratic Socialism are to thick to click the link to the homepage of their favorite indoctrination but how the fock can Tim repeat the same lie this often without actually spending thirty seconds to learn the difference between Communism light and Capitalism light.

Danemark is not facing any poverty or inequality problem. So why would they would be concerned about a minimum wage? The fact that northern countries went so far into gender equality and liberal ideology is quite recent. In this case, these two things far less related than what Bernie seems to think.

I come from central Europe (something you often consider Eastern is actually Central). The salaries are lower than in the west, sure, but so is the cost of living. "Leveling" minimum wage across the border will do nothing but raise the cost of living across the border. And, if we learned something over the years, the increase in costs is usually bigger than the increase in salary. You say that it is better in the UK? Well that highly depends. I rent a 3-room flat (yeah in Slovakia we are like that, we express the size in rooms + kitchen and bath/toilet) and I pay a total of 25% of my net income for rent and utilities. That's pretty fucking good. I'd rather they don't fuck with the economy.

I do not think they care about the people at all. The German economy is stagnating. They are so heavily reliant on exports into other countries that they think increasing minimum wage = increasing exports. That is in my opinion the one and main reason why they want to do this.

Now that we got you a $15 minimum wage, we had to fire Bill. You'll make more but you have to do your job and Bill's.

Now that we got you that $15 minimum wage, we are cutting you to part time. You'll actually bring home less but you don't have to work as hard. Of course, you can get another part time job with your spare time.

Youth unemployment is 9% higher in Sweden than it is in the US because once you hire someone in Sweden it’s extremely difficult to fire that person, even if they aren’t performing as expected. This lack of real world job experience in the new grads affects (and even youth non grads) have a sharp negative effect on Sweden’s economy especially down the line.
