The Bondi Blue color was only available on the 1998 tray loading iMac (the first revision).

The bondis had a door over the ports section. Everybody used it wrong though, cables through the „finger hole“ when they had separate openings at the bottom of the flap.

@Sauwercraud Can't recall when they dropped the metal shield around the back of the CRT, whether that was Rev A or not.

I personally sold the first Bondi Blue iMac in San Francisco when it went on sale August 15, 1998 for $1299. Seems like an eternity ago now.

I had one of the original Bondi Blue ones. I upgraded the HD to 12GB (iirc) and had old MacOS, OSX and Linux for PowerPC all installed on it. I replaced the hockey puck mouse with a Bondi Blue three button mouse.

I remember using these in college to render out 3D work. One machine wasn’t enough so we would have to render a few seconds on 10-15 different machines overnight to get it to work. Those were some fun days.

OK, I know 2x USB seems "slim" now but you have to go back to the time period. First, because the keyboard was effectively a USB hub the mouse and KB took one USB connection. That left one open connection for a printer/scanner/everything else. Oh wait, that was everything else because there was also a modem port and ethernet port. Those were both add in cards in every other computer at the time. And remember, a single USB port supported 127 daisy chained devices. The iMac predates a USB version of a Zip Drive, predates most USB printers and predates most USB keyboards. (BTW - Im sure you have figured out that that is USB 1.1 not 2.0.) I still have an ADB to USB adapter because there were so few USB keyboard/mouse available. There were printers marketed as "iMac Printers" because there were no other computers with USB.

Also, you mock the $1299 price tag but this was at a time when a 15" monitor cost $300, computers didn't come with speakers let alone sound cards and a copy of any operating system cost $100-$300. The iMac packed an insane amount of capability for $1300.

Finally, that was a bondi blue, not a blueberry.

Why don't we upgrade this machine with current hardware configurations. Well with the CRT out of the way replacing it with an LED monitor, we will have much space for the other upgrades..

Wooow.. .. If and only if I can get hands on that beauty to do the above with you guys.. 🙂🙂😇
