  • In October 2019, Google made a big announcement. It announced its 53-qubit quantum computer named Sycamore had achieved ‘quantum supremacy.’ That’s when quantum computers can complete tasks exponentially more quickly than their classical counterparts. In this case, Google said its quantum machine completed a task in 200 seconds that would have taken the world’s most powerful computer 10,000 years to complete. IBM, another major player in quantum computing, took issue with the findings. Either way, it was a big milestone in quantum computing, and it’s leading to a lot of hype in the field. Here’s how quantum computing works, and how it could change everything from Wall Street to Big Pharma and beyond.

For those who don't understand quantum supremacy in Google video (https://youtu.be/-ZNEzzDcllU)
it means the tech can learn something and eventually use it for different purpose..Do u remember when using windows and it sometimes shows "not responding"? Thats the quantum behaviour of a metal computer right nowadays but of course it makes your computers freeze but the behaviour of it makes the new quantum computer scalable to understand and eventually do something commercial with it haha

Wrong - quantum supremacy is a really important hype term, not milestone.

Researchers at UNSW in Australia have already patented technology for quantum architecture with unlimited scaling potential of millions of qubits. That would also be developed on a silicon board similar to your home laptop.

They are referring to 53 or 128 Qubits as if that is our current threshold - Not even close... Google bought a 2048-qubit D-Wave over nearly 2 years ago. Give me a break.

Quantum computers can only work at temperatures near absolute zero this statement is also not accurate. She does not realize there is a LOT more going on in R&D, quantum computers are already being developed that operate at room temperature.

As an example, she states quantum computers would need millions of qubits to crack RSA encryption. This is just blatantly wrong. 2048-bit RSA keys could be broken on a quantum computer comprising only 4,000 qubits. In real time. Most marketed applications and protocols such as https only use 256-bit encryption so the threshold is wayyyy downstream from 4000 qubits.

The day a computer can read, comprehend, write, and punctuate in Now-Time, using Correct-Parse-Syntax-Grammar, will be day I believe computers can get it right.

the ultimate rule of computing still needs to be applied... garbage in = garbage out.... the vast majority of the world is not a super genius. Just getting all the data to enter requires a brain bigger than I (and most likely any of you) will ever possess.

It's interesting when they describe quantum states as varying degrees of being between 0 or 1. That's classic fuzzy logic. I was always under the impression that it's both, of course until you observe it. And down the rabbit hole we go...
